The far right in British politics is fragmenting. A dismal performance by the British National Party (BNP) at the 2012 local elections, and internal splits within the English Defence League (EDL), have left a movement that is struggling to connect with voters who -at broad level- are generally supportive of some of the far right’s core policies, but remain turned off by the brand itself. Moreover, since the 2012 elections the far right has become beset by internecine rivalry, with the Chairman of the BNP -Nick Griffin- seeking to recruit support from disgruntled EDL foot soldiers. It is against this backdrop that Griffin has launched a new video, in which he criticises the leadership of the EDL for planning a return march to Walthamstow in October.
